FAQs
Can hand crank reels be converted to motor driven reels?
Yes, Reelcraft has a number of conversion kits. The reel model and motor type will need to be verified. Listed below are some of the available conversion kits for Series 30000 reels. Contact customer service for more support.
A switch will also be required for all motor driven reels. Reelcraft has several types of switches and speed controls available. These switches are motor size specific and must be wired properly for the hose reel to function correctly. Have your hose reel model number ready and consult customer service for switch recommendations.

How many GPMs will I get from my hose?
GPM = gallons per minute is a function of hose diameter, hose length, supply pressure and fluid going through the hose/reel. The most common fluids, air and water, can be seen in charted data. For hydraulic oils, it is necessary to know the operating temperature, pressure and fluid viscosity.
What does the solenoid do and why might I need one?
A solenoid is required if you are using a 12 / 24 VDC motor. Much like in an automobile, the solenoid allows for the use of a light duty, low amperage switch to be used to operate a motor. A relatively large surge of electrical current is required to operate the motor. This surge is allowed by the solenoid to go straight from the battery to the motor while bypassing the switch.
Note: Our latest integrated switch boxes have the solenoid and circuit breaker built-in and do not require an additional external solenoid. Refer to our Motor Accessories page for a complete listing of our switches and other accessories.
Why is fluid or air leaking from my swivel?
O-ring worn out or wrong O-ring for material being handled
Replace O-rings with O-ring kit or replace with correct rings for material being handled.
Swivel may be loose or not enough pipe thread sealant on shaft threads
Remove swivel and check threads ensuring they are in good condition. Reapply thread sealant and install swivel onto reel ensuring good thread engagement.
How do I slow down the speed of my motor driven reel?
Reelcraft offers a variety of weatherproof combination switch and speed control devices to satisfy 12 V DC, 24 V DC, 115 V AC, and also 230 V AC motors. These switch/speed controls offer motor on-off, fixed, or variable speed control without loss of motor torque. They also offer motor reversing capability when required.
Universal switch/speed control mounting brackets are also available. Visit our Motor Accessories page to see our motor switches and speed control options. Please consult Reelcraft customer service or engineering to best select the component to meet your needs.
